The Structural mechanics of naval architecture and ocean engineering institute includes research team of environmental loading and structural strength, oceanic revitalization academic team of vessel antiknock and underwater launching technology (collegiate oceanic revitalization academic team), research team of fluid-structure interaction technology (collegiate young scientist studio). The institute has a total of 21 faculty members, including 6 full professors, 8 associate professors and 7 lecturers. There are also a recipient of national scientific foundation for outstanding young people and a special-term professor of Yangtze scholars.
The major research areas of the institute include ships and oceanic prediction of the floating body wave-loading, structural dynamic response analysis and ship hull structure direct calculating method, experimental technology of wave-loading and structure property, vessel environment adaptability, virtual test technology of vessel structure property, transient fluid-structure interaction technology, bubble dynamics, underwater launching technology structural impacts dynamics, vibration and noise reduction, application of composite material on vessels and so forth. Especially the institute concentrates on the resolution of key problems related to the structural design of naval architecture and oceanic engineering structures, along with its performance test and analysis, forming a research group with professional features.
Research project of the institute are sponsored by national special basic research subjects (973 subjects), National High-tech Scientific Research Subjects of Naval Architecture, national natural science foundation subjects, national defense pre-research foundation, navy vessel assorting scientific subjects and so forth. The institute has totally over 100 scientific research subjects, more than 400 published technical papers, over 30 patents and 10 software copyrights. The institute has more than 10 national and provincial science and technology and teaching awards.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan, the institution made remarkable contributions in talents cultivation, scientific researches, team establishment, academic establishment and so forth. The institution has cultivated over forty Doctoral candidates and over 150 master degree candidates and won over 20 educational prizes. It also undertakes the national special basic research subjects (973 subjects), the high-tech vessel projects of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the special project of the National Development and Reform Commission, the major projects of Natural Science Foundation of China, the surface projects, national defense pre-research foundation, navy vessel assorting scientific subjects and so on, summing up to over one hundred projects. The projects it attends or directs won one second prize for progress of national defense technology, one second prize for national scientific technology progress, one second prize for defense technological progress, one second prize of natural science of Heilongjiang province, and so on. The calculation software of naval architecture and oceanic engineering it exploits has been enrolled in the statutory check of drawings index of china classification society and is under commercial popularization.
After oversea experiences for academic communication as visiting scholars or postdoctoral joint researches, the academic level and scientific research capabilities of the team members have undergone remarkable improvement. Among the scholars, professor Zhang A Man received the first session of national scientific foundation for outstanding young people, the first batch of supporting projects for top young people of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the special-term professor of Yangtze river scholars, the scientific foundation of Heilongjiang province for outstanding young people, supporting projects for outstanding talents in new century of the ministry of education and the 12th Huoyingdong educational foundation of the ministry of education. As for the subject construction, the institution also made remarkable contributions for the significant special projects-’Mesoscale Depressurized Tank’, especially the demonstration work and vessel security regulation construction of the project.
