Institute of Ship and Ocean Platform Overall Technology - Ship and Ocean Engineering Design and Manufacturing "Xinghai" Academic Team

1. Team Introduction

Ship and ocean engineering design and manufacturing "Xinghai" academic team, focusing on polar strategy, high-end ship and sea equipment design and manufacturing and other strategic needs, having been engaged in the researches on polar technology and equipment, ship design, ship and sea intelligent manufacturing, ship and sea digitalization and simulation etc., is committed to building an innovation platform for scientists and researchers of international first-class ship equipment design and development, and to promote the design and application of novel and high tech ships, intelligent manufacturing, ship and sea digitalization technology.

The group has 24 full-time members, including 8 professors (researchers), 1 international professor, 14 associate professors (associate researchers),  12 of which are PhD student supervisors, There are also 5 post doctors and 20 plus full time research fellows. There are in the team 17 are supported by national, provincial, or ministerialtalent programs, 11 provincial talents. The research group owns the Ministry of Science and Technology of China-Russia Polar Technology and Equipment "one Belt one Road" Joint Laboratory, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Polar Equipment Technology Key Laboratory, Heilongjiang Province Polar Equipment Technology Collaborative Innovation Center and other platforms. The team has been awarded the titles of Innovation Team of China Shipbuilding Engineering Society, Research Team of Heilongjiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and Excellent Graduate Student Guiding Team of Heilongjiang Province.

2. Teaching and Research Achievements

The research group is responsible for many undergraduate core courses such as Principles of Ship and Ocean Platform Design, Introduction to Naval architecture and Ocean Engineering, Theory and Methods of Ship and Ocean Platform Manufacturing, etc., of which 2 are  national first-class undergraduate courses and 3 are  first-class undergraduate courses of Heilongjiang Province. We have won 3 national and 7 provincial teaching achievement awards, 1  exceptional award for National Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award , and several provincial awards for teaching and education; the group has published more than 20 text books; undertaken 5 provincial research projects of teaching and education; published more than 40 research papers on reformation in teaching and education.

The group has coordinated more than 100 scientific research projects including major and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Major Infrastructure Demonstration, Key R&D program projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), National Scientific And Technological Major  Projects, high-tech ship  projects of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), etc., published more than 200 SCI/EI research papers and obtained 80 patents. Major scientific achievement of the group includes:  polar air cushion ice-breaking transport vessel, shuttle passenger  submersible, aquatic fishing underwater robot, accessibility assessment system for large ships and platforms, informatization platform for production and management of self-elevating platforms, operation simulation platform for serialized marine engineering equipment, and simulation system for driving and control training of air cushion ships. The group has won 5 first (Provincial and ministrial) prizes for innovation in science and technology.


3. Education and International Cooperation

More than 300 students have graduated under the supervision of the group, most of which became employee of China Shipbuilding Group and its subordinate research institutes, CNOOC and other state-owned enterprises.

The group has established good cooperative relationship with University of California, Berkeley, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Stoke-on-Trent, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Aalto University of Finland, etc. More than 100 young teachers and PhD students have been involved in the activities overseas.
