The International Workshop on Marine Hydrodynamics Modelling (IWMHM2018) was held in the Chuanhai Building of HEU from May 21st to 25th. Middle-aged and young marine hydrodynamicists from more than 10 universities from Norway, Denmark, France, England, Iran and Singapore attended spoke. Over 40 PhD and master students attended the workshop.
The topic of the workshop is “Ocean waves”. Pioneer researchers in the international community of wave simulation, especially those programmers of open source codes, were invited to talk and discuss the challenges in wave simulations in the R&D and operation of ships and marine equipment.
An unprecedented mode of one hour speech focusing on a certain research topic was adopted at IWMHM, covering the theory, evolution of numerical and experimental simulation methods as well as their pros and cons, and the latest successful applications.
It was generally acknowledged by the participants that, through the 5-day in-depth discussions, the knowledge could be systematically gained, and the particular scientific problems where challenges still exist were discovered. New approaches were found for collaboration in marine related areas. The discussions of IWMHM also led to the consensus that international collaboration teams, in the long quest of ocean exploitation and saving the ocean, are to be formed for collaborative innovation so as to deal with the scientific challenges of common interest.
The workshop was proposed by Dun Wenyang, the director of state international research center for ship and marine engineering mechanics, a distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars of our university, and organized by Professor Shao Yanlin, professor Ma Sude and the “Youth cultivation program talent” professor Zhao Binbin.
