From October 28th to 29th, 2018, the College of Shipbuilding Engineering invited experts to carry out on-site assessment of the first-level discipline master's degree program of hydraulic engineering. The expert group was chaired by professor Dong Guohai, member of the 7th Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and director of the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology. Other experts were professor Fu Qiang of Northeast Agricultural University, professor Chen Da of Hohai University, professor Liang Bingchen from Ocean University of China and professor Ji Chunning from Tianjin University.

During the on-site review period, the experts carefully reviewed the self-assessment report of the college, listened to the self-assessment report of the degree program, visited the laboratory of the degree program, and participated in a series of informal discussion with the college management personnel, young teacher representatives, and student representatives. From which, they had an in-depth understanding of the cultivation objectives, college characteristics, teaching staff, management system, student employment and other personnel cultivation and scientific research status and future planning.

At 11:00 am on October 29th, the expert group gave feedback on the on-site assessment at the Qihang activity center. The expert group believes that master's degree program of hydraulic engineering of Harbin Engineering University closely follows the frontier of the discipline and the development needs of the industry, forming three research directions for port coastal and offshore engineering, hydraulics and river dynamics, and marine renewable energy technology. With distinct characteristics and accurate disciplinary location, it has cultivated a large number of high-level innovative talents for China's hydraulic engineering and marine engineering fields, and has become an important talent training and scientific research base in this field. The total number and structure of the teaching staff meet the needs of high-level innovative talent training and high-level internationalization. The degree program curriculum settings reflect the frontier of the discipline. And its strength lies in standard quality control system of talent training, excellent graduate management service and funding system, high quality personnel training, and good social satisfaction. At the same time, experts proposed to further optimize the structure of the teaching staff, increase the number of tutors, expand the scale of training, further increase investment in platform construction, promote the output of scientific research results, and enhance social service capabilities.

The college said that it would seriously think about the valuable opinions and suggestions put forward by the expert group to further strengthen the development of the master's degree program of hydraulic engineering.
