The Teaching and Experimental Center for Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering

The Teaching and Experimental Center for Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering was established in 2004. In 2008, it was awarded as the provincial teaching and experimental demonstration center of Heilongjiang Province. In 2009, it became the only national teaching and experimental demonstration center in the area of naval architecture and ocean engineering. The center is comprised of the fundamental mechanics laboratory, laboratory for naval architecture and ocean engineering (towing tank laboratory, structural mechanics laboratory, ship maneuverability laboratory and deep-basin laboratory ), digitalization laboratory for shipbuilding (CAD/CAM), and the students’ scientific and technological innovation and practical teaching base.

The center has totally 26 faculty and staffs, including 3 professors, 9 associate professors, 11 lecturers and 3 technicians.

The facilities of the center have been greatly improved, and the teaching and experimental system focusing on training students’ ability of practice and innovation is being completed. The national teaching and experimental demonstration center has been approved by the Ministry of Education, and the virtual simulation teaching experiment center for Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is also approved as the national demonstration center, which facilitate the center in training applied, compound, and innovative talents.

The center puts emphasis upon training students with the ability of practice and innovation. In the past years, 369 undergraduate students and 105 master students were supervised in the center and students from the center won 116 innovation awards, and a large number of compound talents were trained by the center.

In the past years, the center has performed more than 100 scientific research projects, and the experimental techniques have been significantly improved. Cutting-edge experimental technique researches have been performed in the center, including the towing tank fine flow field measurement technology and the ice condition of ship hydrodynamic performance test technology.
