Introduction to the Laboratory

The Engineering Structures Laboratory is affiliated with the State-level Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching and the Mechanical Testing Center of the College of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering at Harbin Engineering University. The laboratory relies on the national key discipline of "Shipbuilding and Ocean Structure Design and Manufacturing" and mainly undertakes experimental teaching and research tasks for the majors of "Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering" and "Port and Coastal Engineering."

The Engineering Structures Laboratory currently has a usable area of 1300 square meters and more than 400 sets of instruments and equipment. It is equipped with a multi-point coordinated loading system, MTS810 fatigue testing machine, six-degree-of-freedom sway test platform, deep-sea environment simulation test devices of various diameters, dynamic data acquisition system, structural strain modal analysis and testing system (LMS), vibration and noise comprehensive testing system (BBM), various types of static experimental data acquisition systems, as well as ultrasonic flaw detectors, ultrasonic thickness meters, signal amplifiers, and other testing equipment. The total value of the instruments and equipment exceeds 12 million yuan.

Experimental Capabilities

The Engineering Structures Laboratory has the capability to conduct dynamic and static loading and on-site testing for ship and marine engineering structures, as well as other engineering structures under various complex stress conditions. It can achieve multi-point coordinated loading for large-scale structural models and data acquisition and analysis under various complex working conditions. The main research directions of the laboratory include static strength, fatigue, vibration impact, and fluid-structure coupling.

In recent years, the laboratory has successfully completed various test projects, such as deep-sea pressure testing of composite materials, fatigue testing of pressure vessels, fatigue testing of typical structures of catamarans, fatigue testing of characteristic structures of ships, impact testing of key components of nuclear power plants, simulation testing of liquid tank sloshing, explosion testing on actual ships, and vibration testing during sea trials of various ships. The laboratory has participated in a number of national defense pre-research projects during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" to the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan," various basic research projects (863 Program, National Natural Science Foundation), and experimental research for major national projects, covering various fields related to the "Three Seas and One Core" (shipbuilding industry, naval equipment, marine development, and nuclear energy utilization).
