The 2nd International Ocean Energy Development and Technology Symposium was held on September 17, 2009. The symposium was co-founded and co-supervised by the China National Institute of Renewable Energy Ocean Energy Professional Committee, Zhejiang Ocean Society and Harbin Engineering University. The 2nd symposium was organized by the Deep Sea Engineering Technology Research Centre of the College of Shipbuilding Engineering and Technology, and Ocean Renewable Energy Research Institute; and sponsored by CNOOC New Energy Investment Co., Ltd, the British Consulate General in Guangzhou, the China Ocean Society International Exchange Standing Committee, and the Marine Remote Sensing and Information Committee of the Zhejiang Ocean Society.

The symposium lasted two days, and more than 100 experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece, and New Zealand presented. Ideas and latest achievements in the research and development of marine energy technology were exchanged and shared, and the strategies and countermeasures for the development and utilization of ocean energy were discussed. Promotion of policies and measures for the development and utilization of marine energy in China was envisaged.

At 7:30 pm on the 17th, the inaugural meeting of the Marine Energy Professional Committee of the Zhejiang Oceanographic Society was held in the conference room of the HEU Chuanhai building. Representatives the Ocean Energy Special Committee attended the meeting and the Marine Energy Professional Committee of the Zhejiang Ocean Society was formed.
