On December 28th, the college degree and postgraduate education development center of Ministry of Education announced the result of the fourth evaluation of academic subjects. The discipline “naval architecture and ocean engineering” of our university, which has been approved for national "world-class universities and world-class disciplines Initiative", received the highest score of A+, and holds the 1st place in the ranking.

The discipline of naval architecture and ocean engineering of HEU was developed on the basis of the department of Naval architecture (Ship manufacturing division, Ship powering division, and Underwater acoustics division) and Marine Engineering of Harbin Institute of Military Engineering that was founded in 1953. A comprehensive and competent disciplinary system has been established. Education of master students started in 1955, and that of PhD students in 1981. The discipline was approved as a first-class discipline of the country. The mission and the objective of the discipline of our university is to cultivate first-class engineers, leading experts and scientists of naval architecture, ocean exploitation, and naval equipment. The university also aims to be a competent power in scientific research and application in the area of naval architecture and ocean engineering, an important support for core and common technologies, and an important base for research and development of naval equipment.

The 4th assessment was carried out for 95 disciplines (the 16 military related subjects are not included), which involved 7449 disciplines of 513 universities. The disciplines were evaluated on the principle of "accurate calculation and classified presentation". According to the ranking percentile of "subject overall score", the first 70% are published in nine grades.
